Chandigarh: Govt of College of Education organizes its 65th annual convocation

Government College of Education, Sector 20D, Chandigarh organized its 65th Annual Convocation in the college premises here today. Around 100 B.Ed. and M.Ed. students were conferred upon the degrees during this convocation.

College Principal Dr. Sapna Nanda extended a welcome address to Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab & Administrator of UT Chandigarh as the Chief Guest for the event and to the Guests of Honor for the day esteemed Sh. Rajeev Verma, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, Chandigarh and Sh. Abhijit Vijay Chaudhari, IAS, Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration.

Dr. Sapna Nanda read out the annual report of the college and highlighted the achievements of the institution in various fields.

She accentuated the efforts of the faculty, students, and other staff members of the college in furthering and fulfilling the educational objectives of the college.Banwarilal Purohit in his convocation address congratulated the graduates (B.Ed.) and postgraduates (M.Ed.) and the faculty members of the college for their indigenous efforts.

He motivated the young teachers to fortify the virtues of discipline, honesty, and integrity in their character to justify themselves in their endeavor of choosing this noble profession. He quoted Mahatma Gandhi Ji and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as iconic figures who are role models for prospective teachers and society.

He said that knowledge is the supreme power but mere acquisition of it is of no use unless it is translated into ethical values ​​in life. Further, he inspired the degree holders to be learners for life and continue should strive to enrich their knowledge by reading literature and books of varied genres and fields.

Prizes were awarded to the students who secured various positions in the University examinations. In B.Ed., for the session 2021-23-Ameesha Verma secured first position, Ankita Ranout second, and Tanuja Upreti got third place.

In M.Ed., for the session 2021-23- Aarushi Sharma secured first position, Neha Yadav second, and Anjali Kumari got third place. All the students who received degrees secured first division in the Panjab University, Examinations.

The occasion was also marked by the book release entitled “National Curriculum Framework for School Education- 2023”.

The convocation of the college was carried out successfully under the guidance and leadership of Amandeep Singh Bhatti, Director of Higher Education, Chandigarh.
