5 mobiles recovery from jail puts focus back on lax security arrangements

Ferozepur, January 27

Recovery of regular mobiles and other banned items from the jail inmates and lying unclaimed is a matter of serious concern which puts focus back on lax security arrangements in prison.  During the two search operations carried out on January 25 and 26, five mobiles have been recovered from inside the jail from the under trial prisoners and lying as unclaimed.

Earlier also, there had been a number of incidents of recovery of mobiles and other banned items from inside the jail from the possession of inmates or lying thrown outside the barracks.  During the last year, as many as 437 mobiles were recovered from inside the jail. High rising buildings near Ferozepur prison also pose a security threat and the open space behind the jail is free to throw packets containing various banned items.

On January 25, in the search operation carried out by Kashmir Chand Assistant Superintendent, three mobiles were found from old barrack number 7 lying as unclaimed, all with battery and SIM cards.  In another operation on January 26, two mobiles were recovered with battery and SIM cards, one each from under trial prisoner Gurcharan Singh and Jagjit Singh.
