YAD President Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer slams trolls for smear campaign against SGPC

Chandigarh, May 22

Youth Akali Dal President Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer has strongly condemned the online smear campaign being run by certain trolls to defame the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) following its clarification on false claims made by an Army officer.

The controversy erupted after an Army officer falsely claimed in an interview that anti-drone missiles had been deployed inside the premises of Shri Darbar Sahib. The SGPC promptly refuted this baseless claim, calling it completely untrue and deeply hurtful to Sikh sentiments.

“It is shameful how, instead of accepting the truth, certain vested interests launched an online attack against the SGPC — a respected institution of the Sikh Panth,” Jhinjer said.

He pointed out that even the Indian Army later issued an official clarification, stating that media reports about the deployment of anti-drone guns inside Shri Darbar Sahib were incorrect and misleading.

“When the Army itself has denied the claim, these trolls must stop spreading malicious propaganda. Sikh institutions like Shri Darbar Sahib are sacred and must not be dragged into such irresponsible controversies,” he added.

Jhinjer also appreciated the Indian Army for its prompt clarification and praised the valour of its personnel. “We commend the steps taken by the Indian Army and salute the incredible courage shown by our soldiers in giving a befitting reply to Pakistan and safeguarding the nation,” he said.

He further demanded a public apology from the officer who made the original false claim and warned against any attempts to politicise religious institutions.
