Youth Akali Dal President and member of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s working committee, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer, today raised serious questions over the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government’s decision to call a two-day special Vidhan Sabha session.
The Aam Aadmi Party called a special two-day session of the Vidhan Sabha and ended the first day in just 11 minutes, with only obituary references.
“At a time when Punjab urgently needs a long session to discuss burning issues — including the worsening law and order situation, land grabbing from farmers in the name of the Land Pooling Policy, the deteriorating health crisis, and much more — the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government continues to run away from accountability. By wrapping up the first day in just 11 minutes, it has wasted nearly ₹2 crore of public exchequer money. This is unacceptable,” said Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer.
Jhinjer questioned why no business was conducted after the obituary references. “If the government plans to bring the Sacrilege Bill tomorrow, why did it not hold Zero Hour today so that legislators could question the government on all the burning issues Punjab is facing?”
He further said that what Punjab truly needs is a Vidhan Sabha session of at least seven days. “This two-day drama is a cover-up. The people of Punjab expect answers, but the Bhagwant Mann government is cowering away.”
“One day of Vidhan Sabha session costs around ₹2 crore of public money. Why is our money being wasted like this? Why is the government running away from questions?” Jhinjer asked.
He also expressed deep concern over the collapsing law and order situation in the state. “Daily daylight murders are becoming the norm. Businessmen are being openly shot at, and extortion calls are going unchecked. There is no fear of the law. Only recently, Punjab’s industrialists committed over ₹15,000 crore of investment in Madhya Pradesh. That clearly means they are ready to leave Punjab because the AAP government has failed to provide a safe environment.”
Jhinjer also lashed out at the government’s controversial Land Pooling Policy. “Through this policy, they are trying to snatch land from our farmers, despite strong and open opposition from the farming community.”
He said every section of society in Punjab is unhappy with this government. “Be it farmers, traders, youth, or employees—there is anger and disappointment everywhere. But the Mann government remains busy in PR stunts while doing nothing real on the ground.”
