A 33-year-old woman army officer is reported to have died while her seven-year-old son and the driver of the vehicle injured in a road mishap on Pathankot – Amritsar highway on Choudharpura bypass near Dhariwal on Thursday.
According to the information, Chitra Pandey, wife of Adarsh Pandey was a resident of Lucknow and was posted at Pathankot on the post of Major in the Supply Corps of the Army’s ASC Battalion.
She hired a private vehicle from Pathankot to Amritsar Airport with her son and the duo was going home after taking leave. When they reached Chaudharpura bypass near Dhariwal, the car suddenly rammed into a truck going ahead. The impact of the collision was so strong that the bumpers of the car flew off and Major Chitra, who was sitting in the car, died on the spot while her son Archit and the car driver Pankaj resident of Pathankot were seriously injured. The truck driver immediately fled from the spot along with the truck.
Both the injured were taken to Gurdaspur civil hospital for treatment by ambulance, while the body of the deceased women army officer has been taken into custody by the police and further action is being taken.
