As part of the “war against drugs, thousands of people participated in a 3-kilometer-long walkathon in Kapurthala today, pledging to play a leading role in the fight against drugs.
Alongside them, a large number of school students, NCC cadets, and NSS volunteers also took an oath to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Through various slogans, students called on the public to turn the fight against drugs into a mass movement. They not only pledged to stay away from drugs themselves but also committed to becoming ambassadors for a drug-free society.
The walkathon, which began at the local Guru Nanak Stadium, saw thousands of students carrying placards and marching through the city, echoing anti-drug slogans that filled the skies.
The walkathon was flagged off from Guru Nanak Stadium by Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, District Planning Board Chairperson Lalit Saklani, SSP Gaurav Toora, Director of the Water Resources Department Harsimran Singh Ghumman, Chairman of the improvement trust Kapurthala Sajjan Singh Cheema, AAP spokesperson Harnoor Singh Harji Mann .
The walkathon passed through Sainik School, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, Sat Narayan Bazaar, ending back at Guru Nanak Stadium.
Addressing the participants the Deputy Commissioner said that “ overwhelming participation from all sections of society demonstrated the public’s commitment to Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign, turning it into a people’s movement. He urged everyone to join the state government’s campaign to collectively eradicate this social evil.
Before the walkathon began, participants took an oath to stay away from drugs and spread awareness about the issues.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Navneet Kaur Ball, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Varinderpal Singh Bajwa, SP Gurpreet Singh, Joint Secretary Gurpal Singh, Chairman Jagjeet Singh Bittu, Devi Goel, Irwin Kaur, Jashanjeet Singh, Kapil Jindar, all SDMs, Under-Training PCS Vishal Vats, District Public Relations Officer Subeg Singh, District Program Officer Rajeev Dhanda were present on the occasion.
