Surprise checking by District Task Force to stop child begging, 2 children rescued from child begging

Hoshiarpur, July 23: Project Jeevanjot 2 is being run under the guidelines of Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security and Women and Child Development Department, Punjab and under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain. Under this, District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur, led by District Program Officer Gagandeep Singh, along with the District Level Task Force to stop child begging, today raided Bhangi Chowk, Hanuman Mandir, Naya Abadi, Bahadurpur Chowk, Shimla Pahari, Kashmiri Bazaar, Kotwali Bazaar, Railway Road in Hoshiarpur to stop child begging. During this, 2 children were rescued from child begging and presented before the Child Welfare Committee. The children were counseled by the Child Welfare Committee and decisions were taken keeping in mind their well-being.

District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur appealed to the general public that if you see any child begging or doing child labour, then inform about it on child helpline 1098, so that your one initiative can change the life of a child. She said that information about the schemes being run by the Punjab Government for children aged 0 to 18 years can be obtained by calling District Child Protection Unit, Hoshiarpur or Child Helpline 1098. She said that such raids have been done earlier also and these will continue continuously. If any parents are found making their children do child begging, action will be taken against them as well. District Child Protection Unit, Ram Colony Camp, Hoshiarpur can be contacted regarding the safety and care of children. On this occasion, District Program Officer Gagandeep Singh said that as per the instructions issued by the department, DNA test of parents making children do begging will be done and appropriate legal action will be taken against them if the report is not received.

Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Harjeet Kaur said that so far two FIRs have been registered in different police stations in Hoshiarpur district in cases of child begging. During this raid, Mohit (social worker), District Child Protection Unit, Kiran, SHO Kiran Singh and Jaswinder Singh from Police Station City, Dr. Shalini (Health Department) and Amit Kumar (Education Department) were present.
