MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, who visited the flood-affected areas of Ajnala and Ramdas constituencies due to the overflowing of the Ravi river, said that around 360 BSF personnel are trapped in the posts built in Ajnala constituency of Amritsar. They should be rescued immediately. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has demanded immediate intervention from the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and expedite the rescue operation. During this time, former MLA Harpratap Singh Ajnala, Commandant Rajesh Rana and others were present with him.
MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today visited the villages of Bhainiya, Majhi Mian, Gulgarh, Sarangdev, Khanwal, Chhanna Sarangdev, Hashampura, Akbarpura, Awan Basau, Ghogha, Bal Labbe Dariya, Sahowal, Chak Bala, Jagdev Khurd, Aliwal Kotli, Gahilpur, Mungepur, Mohallapur, Sultan Mahal Kalomhil villages of Ajnala constituency. During this, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla met the people and provided them with drinking water, ration and diesel. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla while visiting the posts said that today he first reached BSF BOP Shahpur where water has reached the remaining villages after passing through Kotrajada and Bedi Chhanna. He said that 60 BSF jawans are in BOP Darya Mansoor, 50 in Badai Cheema Post BOP, 32 in Kot Raizada, 40 in Chhanna BOP, 15 in Chhanna Pattan, 80 in Panch Garian, 80 in Dharamshala Niyal Nangal Sodh, 9 jawans have climbed the Peer Baba Dargah on Chhanna Road, who went for rescue and got stuck there. Two vehicles 407 and a Bolero are also stuck.
Apart from this, about 4 to 5000 civilians are stuck. Citizens of Ramdas, Ghonewal, Machhiwal, Jatta, Nasoke, Sangoke, Panch Garian, Kot Raizada, Gaggar, Ghumrai, Manakpur, Bedi Chhanna, Chandigarh Abad, Darya Musa, Rudhewal, Malakpur, Dujowal, Shopian, Thoba, Gaggomahil and nearby villages are standing on the rooftops and waiting for rescue. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that he himself has visited these villages and the administration is nowhere to be seen; he is only going there to give news to the media. MP Aujla said that the rescue operation is like putting a drop in the ocean and it is not having any impact. At this time, there is a need to help people a lot and support people without any politics. He himself is advising people to support each other as the water level is continuously rising. He said that BSF jawans say that if they are given 2-3 motor boats and water jetting machines, they can do a lot of rescue work and NDRF teams should also be deployed. MP Aujla said that crores of rupees are spent on training a soldier who is currently stranded, while ordinary citizens, children, everyone is stranded. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that he has never seen such a condition of the Ravi river as he is seeing today. There is an immediate need for the army here. He said that the water level may rise and people sitting on the roofs may lose their lives, so the central government and the state government should pay immediate attention. He said that people are also stranded across the Ravi and they have been roaming in the Ajnala area since morning but no government representative is responding. He said that tractors are also being swept away, so the risk of loss of life is very high, so the government should pay attention to this area as soon as possible.
