Shoghi an ideal destination for Radio buffs

Harjap Singh Aujla

For Chandigarhians, the King of Hills Shimla is the place to move to whenever troubled by Northern India’s unbearable heat. Among the suburbs of Shimla, there is a colony built just a quarter of a century
ago by the Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA).

It is one of the most well developed urban estates in the nice and cool ever green landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab’s Northern neighouring sister state. It is known for cool summer weather, when the plains of Punjab and Haryana are roasting the humanbeings alive.

Its height is merely 500 to 1000 feet below the highest ridge lines of Shimla. One of its Southern slopes offers an uninterrupted view of the planes of Punjab.

A sidekick of the clear uninterrupted view of the big cities of Punjab is that anyone with a small radio set can tune in to any of the Akashvani radio stations of Punjab.

From Akashvani Amritsar (frequency 103.6 MHz), to Akashvani Jalandhar (102.7 MHz frequency for FM Rainbow, 100.6 MHz for FM Vividh Bharati), Akashvani Ludhiana (100.1 MHz), Akashvani Patiala (100.2 MHz), Akashvani Chandigarh (107.2 MHz for Vividh Bharati), Akashvani Bathinda (101.1 MHz) and Akashvani Fazilka (relay transmitter of Akashvani Jalandhar 100.8 MHz) and Kasauli (100.9 MHz relay transmitter of Akashvani Jalandhar) all these radio stations can be tuned in to from Southern side of the flats in Shogie. The radio buff can also establish as to how Akashvani Shimla (FM 103.7) and Akashvani Dharamshala (FM 103.4 MHz) are blocking Akashvani Amritsar (FM 103.6 MHz) from 5.30 am to the sign off time of all these stations at 11.10 pm at night.
