Chandigarh, March 17

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has unanimously rejected the resignation of its President, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, and urged him to resume his duties immediately. The decision was taken during a meeting of the SGPC Interim Committee, chaired by Senior Vice President S. Raghujit Singh Virk, at the committee’s Sector 5 sub-office.

Following the meeting, Virk announced that all Interim Committee members would personally visit Dhami’s residence in Hoshiarpur to persuade him to return as the head of the Sikh organization.

Key Resolutions and Upcoming Initiatives:

Apart from addressing the leadership matter, the SGPC also took several key decisions:

Review of the Central Education Policy: A committee of academic scholars will be formed to assess the central government’s new education policy. This initiative aligns with the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, given during the recent Hola Mohalla celebrations.

The committee will evaluate necessary reforms in the context of Punjab and Gurmukhi and present recommendations to the central government.
Major Religious Awareness Campaign: In response to Jathedar Sahib’s orders, the SGPC will launch a large-scale religious awareness campaign, reaching every Sikh household.

This campaign, set to begin on April 13, Khalsa Sajna Diwas (Baisakhi), will feature large Amrit Sanchar (baptism) ceremonies at all Takht Sahibs, where thousands of Sikhs will receive Amrit with the historical Khanda of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib.
Commemoration of Historic Sikh Anniversaries:

This year marks the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and the 350th Guruship anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The upcoming religious campaign will be dedicated to these historic milestones, celebrated per Panthic traditions.

The meeting was attended by several senior SGPC officials, including Junior Vice President S. Baldev Singh Kalyan, General Secretary S. Sher Singh Mandwala, and other key members and officers.

The SGPC remains firm in its efforts to uphold Sikh values, education, and religious propagation while awaiting Advocate HS Dhami’s response to their appeal.
