Ludhiana, April 16
The Plastic Merchants Welfare Association, Kesar Ganj Mandi, Ludhiana, convened a meeting on Tuesday with its members and nearby shopkeepers, during which a strong appeal was made to support and vote for MP Rajya Sanjeev Arora, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the upcoming Ludhiana (West) assembly byelection.
Addressing the gathering, the association’s general secretary, Puneet Mukhija, praised Arora as a humble and committed leader known for his selfless service. He highlighted Arora’s crucial role in resolving a long-pending demand of the plastic industry. Mukhija credited Arora’s initiative for a recent state government notification allowing the use of plastic carry bags of 120 microns and above—a long-awaited relief for the industry. He noted that the notification was issued just four to five days after Arora was approached regarding the matter. He urged all members of the association to work tirelessly to ensure Arora’s resounding victory.
In his speech, Sanjeev Arora recalled his earlier visits to Kesar Ganj Mandi for business purposes and fondly shared memories of the local shops and their renowned eatables. He engaged with local businessmen to understand current market sentiments and briefed the gathering on various development projects he has undertaken over the past three years as a Member of Parliament.
“I never imagined I would be seeking votes one day,” Arora said. “It’s only due to the unfortunate and sudden demise of MLA Gurpreet Singh Gogi that the party decided to field me in this election.” He emphasised that he still has over three years remaining as a Rajya Sabha MP but is contesting the election out of a sense of duty, not political ambition.
Arora stated that his drive to serve the public stems from a genuine desire to contribute, not from political motives. “I never played politics—I don’t even know how to,” he said, adding that he is committed to continuing development work beyond politics to make Ludhiana one of the best cities in the country.
Among others present at the meeting were association president Vipan Kataria, senior deputy mayor Rakesh Parashar, Pawanpreet Singh Batra and Raju Baba.
