One thief was killed in a firing by security guard at village Nathuchahal near Kapurthala on Friday midnight.
Senior Superientendent of Police Gaurav Toora confirmed the incident.
Police said two to three thieves entered a flour mill at village Nathuchahal with the intention to loot .Alert security guard challenged them and they opened fire at security guard and security guard also opened fire in self defence and killed one of the thief while remaining thieves fled away .However security guard had providential escape.
Police has kept the body of thief in the mortuary of local civil hospital and his identity was still to be established police said.
Police has registered a case.
