Rupnagar Police has arrested a homosexual person Ram Saroop alias Sodhi of village Chaura, police station Garhshankar, district Hoshiarpur, who murdered 11 persons.
Giving details in Press Conference, Senior Superintendent of Police, Rupnagar, IPS Gulneet Singh Khurana said that following the directions of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rupnagar Range, IPS Harcharan Singh Bhullar, instructions were issued to the Officers of the Police Department to solve the cases of heinous crimes in district Rupnagar.
Khurana said that Superintendent of Police PBI, Rupnagar Navneet Singh Mahal has formed a team of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sri Anandpur Sahib Ajay Kumar and SHO, Police Station Kiratpur Sahib Jatin Kumar to nab culprits involved in especially murder cases.
Referring the unsolved murder case in Kiratpur Sahib, he divulged that Maninder Singh, son of Bhajan Singh, resident of Ward No. 03, Kiratpur Sahib, aged about 37 years, who used to serve tea and water at Toll Plaza Modra, was murdered, on 18 August 2024, and his body was found in the bushes in front of G.O. Petrol Pump, Manali Road. A case number 79 dated 19.08.2024 u/s 103(1) was registered and team conducted a technical investigation to trace the case by examining the circumstances from the beginning. Under which the accused Ram Saroop alias Sodhi, resident of village Chaura, Police Station Garhshankar, District Hoshiarpur, has been arrested.
SSP further said that the accused Ram Saroop alias Sodhi used to take car and motorist drivers for lifts and have sexual intercourse with them and later on, he would rob them and kill them.
He said that during the interrogation conducted after his arrest, the accused admitted that apart from this incident, the accused had committed 10 other incidents, which include 02 other murder incidents in district Rupnagar.
Providing information about one another murder case, Khurana stated that Mukander Singh alias Billa son of Sham Lal, resident of village Begampura (Ghanoli), age 34 years, who used to work as a tractor repairer, who was beaten to death on 05 April 2024, and his body was found at Panjehra Road, Barha Pind. In this regard, case No. 19 dated 06.04.2024 under section 302 IPC has been registered at Police Station Kiratpur Sahib.
He said that similarly, on 24.01.2024, the body of a young man was found in a car near Area Nirankari Bhawan Rupnagar of Police Station City Rupnagar, who was identified as Harpreet Singh alias Sunny, resident of Mohalla Jagjit Nagar Rupnagar. After that a case number 15 dated 25.01.2024 under Section 302 IPC has been registered at Police Station City Rupnagar.
Apart from this, the accused has also admitted to commit incidents in District Fatehgarh Sahib and District Hoshiarpur during the initial interrogation. Accused Ram Saroop alias Sodhi has been arrested and produced in the court and police remand is being obtained. From whom more revelations are expected regarding heinous crimes.
