Chandigarh, March 24
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on Sunday said that 191 MHCs (Munshis) have been transferred from police stations across the state as part of the government’s efforts to tackle corruption.
Addressing the media, Cheema stated that these officers had been serving at the same stations for the past two years. The state government had previously announced a policy mandating the transfer of police personnel after a maximum of two years to prevent the development of corrupt practices.
“This move is aimed at breaking the nexus between corrupt officers and criminals. Many police personnel were found to be colluding with criminals, compromising law enforcement,” Cheema said.
The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the police department through such administrative measures, said the minister.
