Punjab State Safai Karamchari Commission committed to welfare of sanitation workers: Chandan Grewal

Chairman Punjab State Safai Karamchari Commission Chandan Grewal today listened to the issues of sanitation workers at the District Administrative Complex here and directed the officials present on the spot to resolve these issues in a time-bound manner.

During a meeting with officers of Municipal Corporations/Councils/Nagar Panchayats and representatives of sanitation workers’ unions, the Chairman said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is firmly committed to the welfare of sanitation workers. He instructed the officials to address the issues of sanitation workers on a priority basis while ensuring their interests are fully safeguarded. He also directed the officials to ensure timely payment of salaries to sanitation workers, provide them with necessary safety equipment, and arrange training to enhance their efficiency. On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Jasbir Singh, Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jalandhar Rakesh Kumar, and ACP (Headquarters) Manmohan Singh were also present.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chairman Chandan Grewal said that sanitation workers are an important part of society, and the Commission will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the welfare of sanitation workers working in various government departments of the state. He said that today, after listening to many issues of sanitation workers, officials have been instructed to resolve them in a time-bound manner. He mentioned that some demands that are at the government level will be conveyed to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann so that they can also be resolved at the earliest.

Responding to a question, he said that the Punjab Government has made record recruitments in various departments, and the Commission will strongly raise the issue of clearing the backlog of sanitation workers through regular recruitment before the Punjab Government.

The meeting was attended by Executive Officers of Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats and officers of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, among others.
