Village Defense Committees need to be more vigilant to prevent cross-border drug smuggling: Punjab Governor Purohit

The Governor of Punjab Banwari Lal Purohit has invited the youth of the state to support the government and the security forces as a leader in eradicating drugs from the state.

He said that with the support of the people, Punjab will emerge victorious from this war and the brave people of Punjab will once again give a befitting reply to the enemy forces of the country.

The Governor of Punjab Banwari Lal Purohit was meeting the Panchs-Sarpanches and members of the Village Defense Committees of the border villages at Narhanwali village near Kalanour today.

On this occasion, he was accompanied by Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma, MLA of Dera Baba Nanak. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, DGP Punjab Shri Gaurav Yadav, ACS To Governor K Shiva Prashad, Principal Secretary Finance Ajoy Sinha, Narendra Bhargava DIG Border Range, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur,Harish Om Prakash Dayma SSP. Gurdaspur and Madam Ashwani Gotial SSP. Batala was also present.

Addressing the Panchs-Sarpanches and members of the Village Defense Committees of the border villages, the Governor of Punjab Banwari Lal Purohit said that the neighboring country is playing tricks to weaken us, but these impure intentions of Pakistan have never been allowed to succeed.

He said that with the support of the administration and village defense committees, the nefarious movements of the enemy country are being thwarted. He said that Pakistan has now accepted the fact that it cannot fight a direct war with India, so it is making drugs a weapon. He said that if people also work together with the government and security forces, then we can easily defeat Pakistan in this hidden war.

He appealed to the people of the border villages that if there is a drug addict in their village, get him treated and if someone sells drugs, report him to the police. He said that the information given by the people is kept completely confidential.

He said that the police are doing their work, but if the defense committees formed in the border villages are also alerted, the enemies of the society can be identified easily.

He asked Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Varma that Village Defense Committees should be formed in other districts of the state as well. Meanwhile, Governor of Punjab released a coffee table book ‘Virsa Gurdaspur’ which shows the rich heritage of district Gurdaspur by the district administration.

On this occasion, he specially honored Shamsher Singh, Gurjit Singh, Daler Singh and Manjit Singh, members of the Village Defense Committee of village Choura Kalan, who helped the police to catching the drug smuggler and recovering 12 kg 800 grams of heroin.

Earlier, the Governor of Punjab Banwari Lal Purahit along with the officials also inspected the Mission Abad camp being organized by the district administration under the ‘Sarkar Tuahde Dawar’ program at Government High School Narhanwali. On this occasion, he went to every stall and got information about the services being provided to the citizens. Meanwhile, he also distributed the certificates of the services rendered to some beneficiaries. On this occasion, Governor Mr. Banwari Lal Purohit also inspected the stalls set up by Punjab Police and BSF.

Earlier, upon reaching the function, Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma welcomed them and assured them that the administration will leave no stone unturned in eradicating drugs, stopping illegal mining and maintaining peace as per the directions given by them.

On this occasion, MLA of Dera Baba Nanak. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa thanked the Honorable Governor Mr. Banwari Lal Purohit on his arrival at the border area of Dera Baba Nanak.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal especially thanked the Governor of Punjab and all other guests who came to this event. He said that the district administration will implement the honorable governor’s instructions one by one.

He said that the village defense committee which will do good work will be specially honored. He said that toll-free number 1800-180-1852 has been issued by the district administration to inform about drug smugglers. He said that the name and address of the informer is kept confidential.

On this occasion, besides others, A.D.C. (G) Subhash Chandra, A.D.C. (D) S. Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu, SDM Amandeep Kaur Ghuman, Assistant Commissioner (G) Sachin Pathak, SDM. Dinanagar Arvind Kumar, DDPO Satish Kumar, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Kripal Singh Dhillon, XEN Mandi Board Baldev Singh Bajwa, District Employment Officer Prashotam Singh, Naib Tehsildar Sukhwinder Singh and other officials were also present.
