The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign in the state, has nabbed a clerk Harjeet Singh, posted at Tehsil office, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said this case has been registered on the complaint of Gursewak Singh of village Jaga Ram Tirath, Bathinda district.
Giving details he further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above-said clerk has demanded Rs 10,000 in lieu of issuing his marriage certificate.
He further alleged that upon his request the deal has been struck at Rs 6,000 and the accused had already taken Rs 1,500 as a first installment of the bribe and demanded the remaining money.
The spokesperson added that the VB unit of Bathinda range, after a preliminary investigation of the allegations leveled in the complaint, has laid a trap and the accused has been arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 4,500 as a second installment in the presence of two official witnesses and the tainted money has been recovered from him.
In this regard a corruption case has been registered against the above said accused at VB police station Bathinda. Further investigation, in this case, was under progress, he informed.
