Torrential rains worsens flood situation in Kapurthala

Torrential rains have further worsened the flood situation in Kapurthala, particularly Sultanpurlodhi.

Torrential rains throughout day and night for past two days have further worsened flood situation. Low lying areas have been filled with water and even cemented roofs have started leaking. The floodwater have damaged the paddy crops sown over more than sixty thousand acres of land . these crops have been submerged under 5to7 feet of water for past 24 days.

Water in Beas river has started receding to 1.84 lakh cusec but torrential rains have increased the discharge of Beas river .

Meanwhile Sutlej river is flowing above the danger mark near village Gidderpindi and threatening the Dhussi bundh .Sutlej is flowing at 2.03 lakh causec according to official sources.

The followers of Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal today distributed cooked food, Tarpulins,torches , medicines and grocery items to 350 houses in the worst hit villages in the Mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi.
