A high-level delegation led by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami met Governor Punjab Banwari Lal Purohit for the release of nine Bandi Singhs who have completed their sentences.
Senior Vice President of SGPC Harbhajan Singh Masana, Jr. Vice President Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, General Secretary Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, Member Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Deputy Secretary Lakhbir Singh and Harbhajan Singh were also present on this occasion.
During this meeting, the Shiromani Committee delegation handed over the complete details of 26 lakh forms filled by the members under the signature campaign of the Shiromani Committee along with demand letters to the Governor Punjab. In a memorandum given to the Governor of Punjab in the name of the President of India Draupadi Murmu, the release of nine Bandi Singhs who have served double life imprisonment has been sought. Among them are the names of Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera, Prof Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh Lakha, Bhai Gurmeet Singh, Bhai Shamsher Singh, Bhai Paramjit Singh Bhiora, Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara.
Apart from this, through another memorandum in the name of the President, an appeal has been made to resolve the issue of conversion of Bhai Rajoana’s hanging to life imprisonment.
Along with this, the SGPC delegation asked the Governor of Punjab to take serious consideration and decision in the matter of tampering by the Punjab Government in the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925.
