President of the Youth Akali Dal and member of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s Core Committee, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer, has expressed deep regret over the Punjab Government’s failure and negligence regarding the situation of flood victims. Jhinjer stated that nearly a dozen villages of Ghanaur constituency have been hit hard by the Ghaggar river.
Visiting villages Kami Khurd, Lachhru Kalan, Chamru, and Jand Mangoli, Jhinjer verified the damage caused due to a breach in the Ghaggar river embankment. He said that crops, which were nearly ready for harvest, have been completely destroyed. On ground, he met the affected people and listened to their hardships. During this visit, Jhinjer also toured the villages of Sarala Kalan, Sarala Khurd, Harpalan, and Rampur.
Expressing concern for the victims, Jhinjer said that the government is still in a deep slumber like “Kumbhkaran” and has not provided any relief to the affected people so far.
Pointing to the government’s failure, Jhinjer reminded that in 2023, due to floods, a breach had occurred in the Ghaggar near Kami Khurd. Even after that, the government did not make any effort to repair the breach nor was the river cleaned. Now, because of the same breach, farmers have once again had to suffer heavy losses.
Appealing to the Punjab Government, Jhinjer demanded that farmers whose crops were destroyed by floods in 2023 and again in 2025 should be surveyed and compensated at the earliest.
Jhinjer added that while the Chief Minister had once promised compensation even for chickens and goats that died, he has still not taken any concrete steps to help the farmers. “Bhagwant Mann Saab only makes tall and hollow announcements to glorify himself, but when it comes to taking action on the ground, he runs away. Instead of helping flood victims, the government is ignoring their suffering.”
On this occasion, senior leaders of the area including Gurjant Singh Mehdunda, Parminder Singh Bhangu, Parminder Singh Sarwara, Sehaj Kami Khurd, Satnam Singh Jand Mangoli, Amandeep Singh Sarala, Darshan Kami Khurd, and others were present.
Jhinjer further warned that if farmers are not compensated, a major struggle will be launched.
