SAD slams CM Mann for “neglecting” farmers

After the devastating floods, rainstorms, and natural calamities in Punjab, many farmers had to face immense hardships and were forced to harvest their crops. It is disheartening to witness the negligence of the Punjab government in lifting crops and making necessary arrangements, thus leaving the farmers in a dire state

This was stated by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) General Secretary and Spokesperson, Karnail Singh Peermohammad.

The Aam Aadmi Party made lofty promises to the people of Punjab before the elections, but the reality has proven those promises to be completely false.”

Currently, the Punjab government and market committees have failed to make proper arrangements for lifting paddy in the markets, resulting in common farmers’ crops rotting away.

During our time in government, under the leadership of the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, we ensured that arrangements were made well in advance for paddy lifting. Every stakeholder, including shellers, arthis, and peasants, were involved in this process to prevent any suffering for the farmers and their crops.

Moreover, if there were any changes in crop specifications due to natural calamities just before the lifting season, the former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would inform the concerned minister in the FCI Department of the Centre to make necessary changes. However, the current state government has completely failed to take any measures which is highly unfortunate.

We urge the Punjab government to handle farmers’ affairs with caution and sensibility. If the lifting of crops does not commence on time, then the farmers will have to suffer again after the floods, “he added.

We further strongly criticize Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party regarding the (SYL) Satluj-Yumana Link canal issue in Punjab. The livelihoods of Punjab’s farmers depend on their state’s water, but the Aam Aadmi Party and its leader Arvind Kejriwal are playing politics, misleading the people for the sake of Haryana politics. Aam Aadmi Party MPs from Punjab, who support other states, are betraying the people of Punjab over SYL issue.

Bhagwant Mann and his team have stated in the Supreme Court that they are willing to give Punjab’s water to other states, leading to opposition parties within the state raising concerns. Therefore, we call upon the Central Government to intervene personally and deploy the army regarding the SYL issue.

We warn Bhagwant Mann that no matter the force he employs, be it the police or the army, Shiromani Akali Dal will not allow a single drop of water to leave the state,” he added.

We denounce the unprincipled one-day session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly in the past. Such activities waste Punjab’s resources and mislead the common people.
