SAD Challenges Giani Harpreet to clarify confessional statement by Chandumajra on Conspiracy to Split SAD

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today challenged Giani Harpreet Singh to clarify the confessional statement made publicly by Prem Singh Chandumajra. Chandumajra claimed that the conspiracy to split SAD and create a breakaway faction under Giani Harpreet’s presidency was hatched at the late Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s residence, involving all anti-Akali leaders, well before the December 2, 2024 edict of Shri Akal Takht Sahib.

Chandumajra, in his speech at Longowal yesterday, stated that the plan to remove Sukhbir Singh Badal as SAD president, split the party, and install Giani Harpreet Singh as head of the new faction, Nawan Chulha Dal, was finalized at Dhindsa’s home. He named Surjit Singh Rakhra, Jagir Kaur, and Parminder Singh Dhindsa as participants and said Giani Harpreet had been summoned to Chandigarh for this purpose by Dhindsa.

At a press conference at the party headquarters, senior SAD leaders Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Daljit Singh Cheema, Amarjit Singh Chawla, and Sarabjit Singh Jhinjher urged Jathedar Sahib Shri Akal Takht Sahib to take notice of Chandumajra’s “inadvertent confession,” which implicated Dhindsa in entrusting leadership of the new faction to Giani Harpreet.

Calling this a grave betrayal of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the leaders emphasized that Giani Harpreet’s visit to Dhindsa’s residence to discuss a new political front compromised his role as adjudicator of a complaint filed against Sukhbir Singh Badal. They demanded Giani Harpreet explain whether he informed the Akal Takht jathedar about this visit and the leadership offer and whether he actively participated in the conspiracy to weaken SAD.

Maheshinder Grewal declared Giani Harpreet a traitor to the Panth, unworthy of the title Singh Sahab. He condemned both the Nawan Chulha Dal leaders for summoning Giani Harpreet to Dhindsa’s home and Giani Harpreet himself for colluding in a complaint against SAD’s president, thereby damaging Sri Akal Takht’s prestige and violating its maryada. Grewal called for Giani Harpreet to be summoned before the Takht and declared “Panth da dokhi.”

Dr Daljit Singh Cheema thanked Chandumajra for exposing the conspiracy and bringing the truth before the Panth, affirming faith that justice will prevail. He further revealed how Chandumajra’s confession exposed Manpreet Singh Ayali, who claimed to act only under Akal Takht Sahib’s directive, by disclosing that the name “Sudhar Lehar” was his suggestion. Cheema added that Giani Harpreet’s subsequent acts of distancing himself from the Nawan Chulha Dal presidency had also been laid bare by Chandumajra’s statement.
