In view of continuous rainfall and a warning from the Meteorological Department, Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia and SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana on Monday visited several villages along the Sutlej River in Sri Anandpur Sahib, Nangal, and Sri Chamkaur Sahib to review the situation.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner issued safety instructions for residents of low-lying and riverside areas, urging them to remain alert but not to panic. He assured that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and that all necessary arrangements are in place.
People living close to rivers, canals, or streams are advised to immediately shift to safer locations.
Residents of low-lying areas should evacuate their homes and move to rescue centers or higher ground identified by the administration.
These precautions, the administration emphasized, are purely for the safety and well-being of citizens.
A 24×7 control room has been set up in Rupnagar. Anyone stranded or in need of assistance can contact the helpline numbers 01881-221157 or 112.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that the district administration, NDRF teams, and other concerned departments are fully prepared to carry out relief and rescue operations if required.
Local Panchayats have also been directed to keep a close watch on the situation and regularly update residents.
He reassured the public that the administration is working round the clock for the safety of every citizen and appealed for cooperation during this critical period.
