The recovery of mobiles – the most wanted item by the prisoners for illegal purposes – and other banned items continue to be recovered from the barracks and in possession of inmates despite tight security arrangements at the entry points having more than 200 security cops. With the recent recovery of three mobiles and 90 capsules, the total recovery during the current year has gone up to 313 mobiles and other banned items.
The regular recovery of mobiles from inside the jail has become mystery and it is not understood as to how the banned items especially the mobiles are being smuggled in for use by the prisoners, despite three security layers. It needs to be probed in-depth at high level.
During the recent recovery, three mobiles and 90 capsules as unclaimed, were recovered in the search operation carried out by the Assistant Superintendent. ASI Gurmail Singh, IO informed that in the complaint by Nirmaljit Singh Assistant Superintendent, on a tip-off, the mobiles were recovered from under-trial prisoner Chamkaur Singh of Taran now in Ferozepur jail and from Luvpreet Singh of Pall Megha of Ferozeur during the search operation. Meanwhile, a case under the Prisons Act has been registered further investigation is on.
According to jail official, due to open area outside the jail, sometimes the packets and balls are also thrown containing the banned items. However, the area is being covered by deploying extra security staff. But there is no police post inside the jail so far.
