Real Estate Businessman Escapes Gun Attack on Mohali Airport Road; Bullets Hit His Car’s Bumper
A dramatic shooting incident unfolded late Friday night on Mohali Airport Road, where a real estate businessman narrowly escaped an attack after two masked assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at his car. The bullets struck the bumper just below the headlight, sparing his life. Police suspect the attack may be linked to an old rivalry and have launched a full investigation.
According to police sources, the victim, Dheeraj Sharma, a resident of Sunny Enclave, runs a real estate firm named Balaji Estate near UCO Bank on Desu Majra Road. Around 10 PM on Friday, Sharma was traveling with his friend Jasjit Singh in an i10 car toward Palheri village when two masked men opened fire near Sector 123.
“Suddenly, I heard a loud gunshot. The bullet hit the front bumper of my car, just under the headlight,” Sharma told police. “I immediately ducked down along with my friend to save our lives. As other vehicles approached the road, the attackers fled toward Mullanpur, taking advantage of the darkness.”
Upon receiving the information, Sadar Police Station officers rushed to the scene and recovered an empty bullet shell from the spot. Forensic teams inspected the car and the surrounding area while multiple police units reviewed CCTV footage from nearby buildings and roads.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack might be connected to a previous dispute or threat received by the businessman. However, police officials said the exact motive would be confirmed only after further inquiry.
Following the shooting, police cordoned off Airport Road, New Chandigarh, and adjoining areas, conducting intensive vehicle checks to trace the suspects. The investigation is ongoing, with teams working round the clock to identify and arrest the gunmen.
