Punjab Weather Update: ‘Yellow Alert’ for Dense Fog in 15 Districts, Know the Forecast for Coming Days
Mohali/Chandigarh, February 3, 2026: Cold weather and fog continue to wreak havoc across Punjab. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for 15 districts today, warning of dense to very dense fog. Visibility could drop significantly during mornings and evenings, so vehicle drivers are advised to exercise caution.
Districts Affected by Fog
According to the weather department, conditions could be severe today in the following areas:
Very Dense Fog: Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Patiala, Barnala, and Mansa.
Dense Fog: Fazilka, Firozpur, Faridkot, Moga, Muktsar, and Bathinda.
Current Conditions: Yesterday, visibility in cities like Patiala and Bathinda was recorded between just 40 to 100 meters.
Temperature and Weather Trends
Coldest City: Bathinda recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 5.8°C, the chilliest in Punjab.
Temperature Rise: Daytime maximum temperatures saw a slight increase of 1.4°C, providing some daytime relief.
Dry Weather: No rain is expected until February 9, with mostly dry conditions prevailing.
Western Disturbance and Strong Winds
Weather Department Director Surender Pal stated:
New Western Disturbance: A fresh western disturbance could impact northwest India starting the night of February 5.
Strong Winds: This may bring gusty winds to several parts of Punjab on February 5 and 6.
Next 48 Hours: No major changes expected in minimum temperatures, meaning nighttime chill will persist.
