Punjab Vigilance arrests ASI for taking Rs 8000 bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Narata Ram, Incharge Police Post at Fagganmajra village, under police station Anaj Mandi, Patiala for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned police official has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Jaspreet Singh, a resident of Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district.

He further informed that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that said ASI has been demanding a bribe of Rs 8,000 for releasing his vehicle which was kept illegally in Police Chowki Fagganmajra.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team from Patiala range laid a trap and nabbed the accused police personnel in the presence of two official witnesses while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the complainant.

He added that in this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Patiala range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation was under progress, he said.
