Punjab records increase in wheat arrival at mandis, procurement by govt agencies

While the current season of wheat harvest is nearing an end in Punjab, the state this time clocked not just a jump in the crop arrival figure but also in the amount of procurement by the government for the central pool.

 

According to officials, the arrival of wheat has already increased by 16 per cent (16.39 lakh tonne) while the government has procured 19 per cent more (17.4. lakh tonne) than last year till May 2. Notably, the procurement is still on.

The state and central government agencies have procured a total of 111.06 lakh tonne of wheat till May 2 this year for the central pool against 93.63 lakh tonne in the corresponding period last year. The total government procurement was 96.48 lakh tonne in the last Rabi marketing season (RMS).

 

Farmers are getting around Rs 2,125 to Rs 2,130 for one quintal of wheat. The MSP this year has been set at Rs 2,125 per quintal.
