The Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann has moved Supreme Court against Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on the issue of the budget session.
On February 22, the Punjab Cabinet wrote a letter to the governor to convene the budget session.
Till now the governor has not given any answer on the budget session. On February 23, the Governor said that he would take a legal opinion.
“On 22nd Feb 2023, the Punjab Cabinet asks the Punjab Governor to summon the budget session of the assembly from 3rd March 2023. On 23rd Feb 2023, Punjab Governor says he needs to take legal advise on that. Till date Governor not reverted on this issue. Settled law that Governor HAS TO summon assembly as per advise of Cabinet sought to be overridden by Governor. We have been forced to move Supreme Court on something as basic as summoning budget session of Punjab Assembly. Matter will be mentioned tomorrow morning in SC,” tweeted Punjab MP Raghav Chadha divulging the information.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also tweeted on the matter.
“Glimpses of the world’s largest democracy… Go to Supreme Court to make mayor despite majority in Delhi… Go to the Supreme Court to make the Deputy Mayor… The Punjab Vidhan Sabha has to go to the Supreme Court to conduct the budget session… The search for democracy continues,” Mann tweeted.
