Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria Today expressed his concern over the critical situation of floods in the Mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi.
Governor today in a telephonic talk with Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Sungh Seechewal inquired about the flood situation in Sultanpurlodhi and expressed his concern over deteriorating flood situation in Kapurthala and also expressed his gratitude to Seechewal for doing yeoman service to flood victims at this critical juncture .
Governor who was in Ludhiana today to attend a function telephoned Seechewal around 11 am and expressed his desire to come to Sultanpurlodhi and when he came to know that distance from Ludhiana to Sultanpurlodhi is about 70 kilometre he preferred to come on some other day to meet the flood victims and see the critical condition of floods .
The telephone conversation was confirmed by Sant Seechewal .
Seechewal told that he explained pathetic condition of flood victims and demanded immediate compensation to victims to rehabilitate them .
Meanwhile water level is further rising in swollen Beas river to 2.35 lakh cusec according to official sources .
The rising water in Beas river is now threatening the bundhs as soil erosion is very fast due to fast flowing of water in river .
Braving incessant rains today , Seechewal and his followers continued distributing cooked food and other relief materials like tarpulins and grocery items to victims at their houses in the Mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi with the help of boats .
Meanwhile town and surrounding areas today again experienced heavy rainfall in morning resulting in blockage of Kapurthala—Jalandhar road with felling of trees and traffic was diverted on other link roads .
