Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit today administered the oath of office to Justice Sheel Nagu as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, in a swearing-in ceremony held at Punjab Raj Bhawan, here.
Justice Sheel Nagu has also served as the Acting Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The oath ceremony, proceeding of which was conducted by Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma, was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, family members of Justice Sheel Nagu, serving and retired Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora, Revenue Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav and other senior Civil and Police officers of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The appointment of Justice Sheel Nagu as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court was formally notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice on July 4, 2024.
Justice Sheel Nagu was born on January 1, 1965. He was enrolled as an advocate on October 5, 1987 and practised in civil and constitutional matters in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur. He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on May 27, 2011 and became a Permanent Judge on May 23, 2013.
