Punjab Vigilance Bureau, during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has caught SHO Gurvinder Singh Bhullar, posted at police station Dharamkot, district Moga, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the said Police Inspector has been arrested on the complaint lodged by Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of village Noorpur Hakeema (Dhani Maluk Singh), Tehsil Dharamkot.
He further said that the said complainant reached the office of Vigilance Bureau Range in Ferozepur and recorded his statement and alleged that to trace his stolen truck-trolley, he first went to Police Station Kot Ise Khan, Moga District, and the above S.HO who demanded Rs 1 lakh for helping in this regard but ultimately the deal was settled for Rs 80,000.
After this, the said police station took Rs 50,000 as an advance installment from the complainant but the complainant told him that he would give the remaining amount only after getting the physical address of the truck-trailer.
The complainant further alleged that when he again went to the police station to inquire about his trolley, he came to know that the said police station officer had been transferred as SHO Dharamkot. Then he met him in the police station of his new posting where the said police station officer talked about recovering his car from Gujarat only after paying the remaining amount of the bribe.
After this, SHO in the police station itself. took Rs 20,000 as a second installment from the complainant and directed them to pay the remaining amount immediately.
Unable to succumb to this corruption, the complainant decided to approach the Vigilance Bureau Range office. After this, when the said S.H.O. When he was demanding the balance amount of Rs 10,000, the complainant recorded the conversation and handed it over to the Vigilance Bureau office as evidence.
The spokesperson further said that after a preliminary investigation, the Vigilance Bureau has registered a case of corruption after finding the SHO guilty in this matter.
After this, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap, as a result of which SHO Gurvinder Singh Bhullar was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.
In this regard, an FIR has been lodged against the said police employee under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station Vigilance Bureau Range, Ferozepur.
A case has been registered under number 26 dated 5 October 2023. The arrested accused will be presented in the court and further action is underway in this case.
