As many as 160 women members of PAU Kisan Club celebrated Teej festival in the village Karondian, district Ludhiana, with great zeal and zest.
Kiranjit Kaur Gill, Member, Board of Management, PAU was the chief guest, while Nita Sandhu was the guest of honour. Clad in traditional Punjabi attire with phulkari wrapped around shoulders and red-green bangles glittering around the wrists, rural women electrified the atmosphere with vibrant giddha and boliyan.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), highlighted the remarkable role played by the club in sustaining the livelihoods of the farm women via skill enhancement during training programmes.
Inviting the rural women alongwith their families to the upcoming Kisan Melas in September, she opined these melas are an encyclopedia of agriculture and allied activities.
“Learning about improved home management practices can lead to economic progress,” she added.
Expert Dr Prerna Kapila and club members Bhagwant Kaur, Sukhraj Kaur and Gurjit Kaur demonstrated the making of recipes using millets, jaljeera, nutritional pinni, dry fruit cake and banana cake.
Kanwaljit Kaur proposed a vote of thanks. President of the club Jagwinder Kaur, and oldest members Gurdev Kaur Deol and Bhupinder Kaur also graced the occasion.
