Panchayati Polls to be contested without use of Political Parties’ symbols, decides Punjab Cabinet

Punjab cabinet led by CM Bhagwant Mann on Thursday took a decision that election symbols of political parties would not be used in upcoming Panchayati elections. Only the symbols allotted by the election commission would be used by the candidates for the elections of Panch and Sarpanch. Finance minister Harpal Cheema informed this after the cabinet meeting.

“Rule 12 of the Panchayati Raj Act has been amended. The amendment was made to prevent political interference in the Panchayats. Now the Panchayat elections in Punjab will be fought without symbols,” said Harpal Cheema.
