Paddy Straw Burning – Punjab Government comes up with Incentive Scheme for Entrepreneurs

The Punjab Government is taking effective steps to ensure the proper management of paddy straw in the state. The farmers are being provided with ultramodern environment-friendly agricultural tools on a heavy subsidy and now the Punjab government has announced to provide financial assistance for setting up industrial units for making straw pellets.

The main objective of these facilities is to save the straw from decomposition, make it a source of income and prevent pollution of the environment.

Giving more information about this Deputy Commissioner Moga Kulwant Singh said that this assistance is being given by the Punjab State Department of Science and Technology and Environment. He said that according to the policies formulated by the Central/State Government, the annual demand for straw pellets in Punjab is estimated at 10 lakh tonnes per year. Similarly, the Punjab government has made it mandatory to use paddy straw pellets/bales in place of 20 per cent coal in brick kilns in Punjab from May 1, 2023.

He said that in setting up an industrial unit of non-torrefied/torrefied pellets, financial help of 28 lakhs and 140 lakhs would be provided for the plants of capacity of 1 TPH and 5 TPH respectively. Under this, a total of 40 per cent of the cost of plant and machinery will have to be borne by the applicant. The applicant can also avail financial grant for the said plant from other schemes. More financial incentives will be provided by the Punjab government for new small and medium industrial units (MSMEs).

He said that to avail the benefit of this scheme the applicant has to apply on the online portal http://125.19.52.218/cpcb_pellet_grant/.
