During the special search operation carried by the presence of excise officials, 21,600 ltrs ‘lahan’ was recovered and destroyed at the dry spot, to avoid its misuse.
Divulging with details, AC and EO said, every possible effort is being made to curb the menace of drugs and illegal extracting of liquor in the district, as a part of policy to curb the menace of extracting of illicit liquor. The teams of the Police department and Excise officials work in close coordination to effectively to nail excise related crimes.
A raid during the routine patrolling was carried out, under the tutelage of EI Prabhjot Singh Virk, alongwith excise police officials, in the border area villages along Sutlej River where the illegal brewing of ‘lahan’ is carried out, at Habeeb Kai Patan, along the Satluj River and recovered 12 Plastic terpualins containing 21,600 litre Lahan from unclaimed place.
As per information, no arrest could be made as none was available at the place of recovery point. However, the police has been informed to register a case under the Excise Act to investigate further into the matter.
However, the department has reaffirmed that the drive to curb banned liquor will be continued in the future, and strict action would be initiated against any person found to be indulging in illicit liquor trading, added excise officials.
