While visiting the flood-affected areas, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Friday reached the last village of Baoli in Ajnala constituency, where the water level is very high and people are also surrounded but no social service organization or administration has reached yet. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla himself reached these narrow and broken water-filled roads by driving a tractor and took stock of the entire village. He said that he will send trucks of relief material here in a day or two and appealed to other people to also reach this village.
While assessing the situation in the village, Aujla became very angry and said that the entire village has been submerged due to Nomin because the water has come here due to the rupture of Ravi, Sakki and Nomin (small drain) for which the corrupt officials are responsible. He said that if the Sakki drain or Namatar has been encroached upon, then it is the job of the officials to remove it, not the villagers. He said that even two years ago, 50 buffaloes had drowned here but despite this, it was not repaired and today the entire village is sinking, yet neither the government is waking up nor the officials are paying attention. He said that the water has not gone from the village, but has been standing here for 12 days due to which 1000 acres of crops have rotted.
He said that the road coming from Fatehgarh Churian has been completely damaged. The roads are broken at many places, due to which it has become very difficult to reach the village. He and his team also faced a lot of difficulty in reaching the village. Locals told him that he was the first leader to reach their village during this terrible disaster.
The villagers narrated their plight to Aujla and said that thousands of acres of crops have been completely destroyed due to submergence in water. The farmers’ hard work has gone in vain and the villagers are struggling for their daily needs. So far, no help has been provided by the administration or any other department.
Aujla saw the situation on the spot and today he himself came to the village and saw the situation. He assured the villagers that he would help in every possible way. He said that three to four trolleys filled with relief materials would be sent to the affected families of the village and nearby areas tomorrow itself.
He also appealed to the Sangat and social organizations to come forward and help the flood-affected families. Aujla said that until the situation normalizes, he will stand by the affected villages.
The villagers thanked Aujla and said that no public representative had come to inquire about their well-being after the flood. The villagers said that MP Aujla’s visit to the village on an appeal is a boost for them.
It is worth noting that due to continuous rains and rising water in the rivers for the last few days, many villages in Amritsar district have been submerged in water. The standing crops of the farmers have been destroyed. There is also a severe shortage of drinking water, fodder and medicines in the villages.
Talking to the media, Aujla said that he is bringing this situation to the attention of the central and state governments. And they should give a relief package as soon as possible. So that the affected families can get adequate compensation and relief as soon as possible. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to save the hard work of the farmers and villagers and compensate them for their losses.
