Minister, DC distribute aid to rain-hit families

Further intensifying relief  efforts in Jalandhar District,  Punjab Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat, along with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, today disbursed financial assistance to families who suffered losses during the recent spell of incessant rains. Handing over cheques to the affected, the Minister said the Punjab Government has released funds to combat the natural disaster across the state. Of this, Rs. 5 crore has been earmarked for Jalandhar district, which is being disbursed under the supervision of people’s representatives and officials to ensure transparency, he added. They also handed over a cheque worth Rs. 1.20 lakh to a family whose entire house had collapsed in heavy rains that lashed the city this week.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Mr. Bhagat said the state stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its people in this hour of crisis. “The calamity may have damaged our houses and fields, but it cannot weaken our spirit of solidarity. Punjabis have always risen above challenges with resilience, and their humanitarian contributions amid these floods are truly commendable,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal informed that the District Administration has already conducted an extensive assessment of damage caused by heavy rains. He said that 573 houses have already been surveyed by his teams and more than Rs. 1 crore is under the process of disbursement already to extend timely relief, with today’s assistance reflecting the state’s firm resolve to support the affected. “More financial aid will be distributed in the coming days to ensure no family is left without the assistance,” Dr. Aggarwal said. He also offered fulesome support to affected family in Basti Gujan which have suffered roof collapse due to rains. He urged people to report their losses at helpline whats app number 9646222555 through messaging which will prompt immediate response from his relief teams.

The Minister and the Deputy Commissioner also distributed relief material including utensils and ration to affected families from Punjab Government. They also interacted with family, assuring them of continued support until normalcy is restored. Both Minister and DC stressed that the government’s priority remains rehabilitation of affected families and rebuilding essential infrastructure.

Meenu walia, a resident of Basti Gujan who have received cheque worth Rs. 1.20 lakh for repair of her damaged roof thanked Punjab Government for this prompt relief. She mentioned that this relief will go a long way in rehabilitation of her family. She termed this assistance a much needed relief by the Government.
