This season has brought a victory of hope, hard work, and trust for the hardworking farmers of Punjab. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has created a new history this year by completing the procurement of over 150 lakh metric tons of paddy. This unprecedented achievement comes at a time when floods in several parts of the state had damaged crops, but the government’s strong policy and the farmers’ unwavering spirit overcame all challenges.

According to government figures, a total of 1,51,80,075.88 metric tons of paddy arrived in the state’s mandis (markets) until the evening of November 10, of which 1,50,35,129.93 metric tons were procured—meaning approximately 99 percent of the total arrival! This demonstrates the success of the foolproof and robust infrastructure developed by the government.

The state government has developed modern infrastructure to make the procurement process in the mandis completely transparent, fast, and convenient. Lal Chand Kataruchak, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, is personally monitoring the situation at the ground level to ensure that farmers face no difficulties.

The result of this efficient system is that over 11 lakh farmers have already received the benefit of the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Patiala district is at the forefront, where the maximum number of farmers have been paid under the MSP. Approximately 90 percent (over 135 lakh metric tons) of the procured paddy has already been lifted from the mandis, which has effectively prevented congestion in the markets.

The biggest achievement is that the farmers received their payments within the stipulated time limit. The government has so far deposited more than ₹34,000 crore directly into the bank accounts of the farmers. Payment was ensured within 48 hours of procurement in most mandis, ensuring no delay for farmers in preparing for their next agricultural season.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “This achievement is the result of the combined hard work of Punjab’s diligent farmers, government officials, and employees. Our government’s goal is not just to procure paddy, but to give every farmer respect, stability, and self-reliance.”

This step by the government reflects the success of the “Farmer-First Policy.” Advance planning, deployment of sufficient staff, and real-time monitoring of mandis have made Punjab’s procurement system an example for the entire country.

This is not just a record-breaking paddy procurement, but a splendid example of farmers’ trust, government transparency, and good governance. The Punjab government has once again proven that when the intention is clear and the system is strong, no obstacle can stop the state’s progress.
