Ludhiana’s ‘Sunny’ Shines in Australia: From Taxi Driver to MP Candidate; Ruling Party Grants Ticket

Ludhiana: Punjab’s youth have often raised the flag of hard work abroad, but Baldev Singh Sunny from Motinagar, Ludhiana, has set a new example. Once driving taxis on Australian roads for a living, Sunny Singh has now been named the candidate for Member of Parliament (MP) by Australia’s ruling Liberal Party.

Journey from Taxi Driver to Politics
Sunny Singh arrived in Australia (Port Augusta) in 2012 on his wife’s study visa. In the early days, to cover household expenses and his wife’s tuition fees, he drove taxis and tractors. Through sheer hard work, he not only established his own business but also built a distinct identity among locals.

Key Milestones of Success:

  • Two-Time Councillor: His popularity soared, leading to election as councillor in 2018 and again in 2024.

  • MP Ticket: Recognizing his development work, the Liberal Party has given him the ticket for the March 2026 elections.

Joyous Atmosphere in Ludhiana
Sunny’s father, Jagjit Singh, who runs a small factory making tractor parts, is overjoyed with his son’s achievement. He shared that Sunny studied at Motinagar and Ramgarhia School in Ludhiana. Before moving abroad, Sunny even ran his own gym in Sahnewal.

Father’s Appeal to Indians
Jagjit Singh and Sunny’s friend Yuvraj Sharma have appealed to the Indian community in Australia to support Sunny maximally, so a Punjabi youth can reach Australia’s parliament and become the voice of the community.

Sunny Singh’s Message
Sunny Singh said, “I started my journey as a taxi driver. The people of Port Augusta gave me immense love. I have always worked for the area’s development and am now ready for this bigger responsibility.”
