Jalandhar DC reviews situation in Phillaur and Gidderpindi as rain lashes flood prone areas

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Sunday visited areas adjoining the river Satluj to assess the situation amid the rise in water level, reassuring citizens that there is no cause for panic as the situation remains under control.

Dr. Aggarwal informed that nearly 70,000 cusecs of water was flowing at Gidderpindi, while about 40,000 cusecs was recorded in Phillaur. He pointed out that in 2023, these locations had witnessed water levels exceeding one lakh cusecs, which was much higher than the present situation.

Holding detailed discussions with officials deployed on the ground, the Deputy Commissioner directed them to take all necessary steps to prevent any flood-like situation in the district. He said that the district administration was already fully geared up to deal with any eventuality, with relief centres and essential relief material pre-arranged.

The Deputy Commissioner further informed that district-level and sub-division level flood control rooms have been established to keep a close watch over the situation round-the-clock. He directed the concerned officials to ensure seamless coordination among key departments to carry out rescue and relief measures promptly if required.

While underlining that there is no immediate danger of floods, Dr. Aggarwal stressed that field officials must remain completely vigilant. He urged the residents not to panic and assured them of the administration’s preparedness.

Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission: DC visits Jalandhar-Phagwara National Highway, directs removal of waterlogging at service lane

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today visited Jalandhar-Phagwara National Highway under Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission wherein he issued on-the-spot directions to NHAI officisls to clear waterlogging from the Highway, especially at service lane/slip roads. He emphasized immediate intervention by NHAI to provide relief to commuters during the monsoon season.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over rainwater accumulation at several locations along NHAI stretches. He said such blockages cause major inconvenience to the public and must be resolved on priority.

Dr. Aggarwal called NHAI team on-the-spot and directed to clear the waterlogging by fixing drainage issues at Highways. He furrher asked to check and clean rainwater chambers along highways passing through Jalandhar to ensure proper drainage and uninterrupted flow of water. He categorically directed them to monitor slip roads, which often remain submerged during heavy rains, restricting public access and smooth traffic flow.
