Incessant rains through out night and in the day today worsened the flood situation in Kapurthala particularly in Sultanpurlodhi Lodhi.
Meanwhile swollen Beas river is in spate and water level has started rising from 2.12 lakh cusec causing damage to standing paddy crops sown over more than fifty thousand acres of land and also threatening the dhussi bundh .The district administration and followers of Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal distributed relief materials to the flood victims . Seechewal himself along with followers distributed cooked food , tarpaulins, medicines and grocery items to the flood victims in the worst flood affected villages in the Mand areas.
Seechewal took up the issue of de- silting of sand from the bed of Harika pattan for better discharge of river water which would also help in controlling the floods.
An old building in kasaban locality here fell in the morning causing damage to electricity poles and wires and disrupted the power supply.
Low-lying areas are filled with water and normal life has been disturbed and people apprehend repeat of 1988 floods which devastated the area.
Meanwhile Kapurthala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anupam Kaler visited the site at kassaban locality where an 80 year old building fell and commission ordered the clearance of debris from the road for smooth flow of traffic .
