The flood situation continued to remain grim as water level in the swollen Beas river further rises to 1.33 lakh cusec causing considerable damage to embankments at six points to advance bundh .
Meanwhile, Kapurthala, Sultanpurlodhi and Bholath areas had a torrential rainfall for past two days and is a cause of concern to flood affected farmers as rain waters ultimately merges in Beas river .
Braving rains Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal along with his followers and more than one thousand farmers were strengthening the weak points at six places to save the advance bundh from fury of floods.
Seechewal Said JCV machines, Tractor trolleys and other equipments were put into service to check the erosion of soil beneath the bundhs by putting sand filled bags in the river .He said work on strengthening the advance bundh was going in the worst affected villages Ahlikalan, karmuwala Pattan and Ahlikhurd in the Mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi.
Meanwhile pong dam today released more than 70 thousand of cusec of water in swollen Beas river from pong dam according to Drainage department S.E Amarinder Singh Pandher .He said that situation in the worst affected villages would improve with the decease in water level in the Swollen Beas river in the coming days in case rains stopped in the mountains.
