Due to heavy rains in the upper hills, the water level in Sutlej river has increased and it is flood like situation in border villages Kaluwala, Tendiwala and Nihala Kilcha in Ferozepur and even the barbed wire at the international border has also sunk into the ground resulting in entering of water in about 100 acres of standing crop fields on Indian and Pakistan side.
With the dismantling of a temporary bridge by the Army between Nihala Kilcha village and Kaluwala, from which even the vehicles could be passed, the villagers are facing a lot of inconvenience. Village Kaluwala which is already covered from three sides by Sutlej River is cut off from the rest of the world. In view of this alarming situation, the people have been asked to shift to safer places but they are still sticking there.
Added here, a similar situation had arisen during 2019 when around 50 villages were affected. As per another information, since 1988, 125 villages have been affected 7 times due to floods apart from other villages like Nihala Lavera, Dhira Ghara, Talli Glam, Badala, Mishnewala Basti, Kale Ke Hittar, rukne Wala and Baggu Wali Dhani which have been affected number of times. In the years 1991, 1995, 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2019, these villages have faced flood like situation.
