Ahead of ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the District Administration has geared up to conduct free, fair and seamless election process by constituting different committees and appointing nodal officers.
Deputy commissioner-cum-District Election OfficerAmit Kumar Panchal today directed the officials concerned to pull up their socks for adequate arrangements and all requisite poll preparedness.
The Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said the district administration had been giving final touches to poll preparations so that the Lok Sabha elections could be conducted seamlessly. He said of four assembly constituencies, two namely Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi were fallen under the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency while Bholath and Phagwara in Hoshiarpur parliamentary constituency.
Panchal said several teams had been constituted to oversee election process for which the nodal officers were also appointed.
As per the directions, the district police will maintain law and order situation in the district. Companies of para-military forces will also be deployed across the district for this purpose, said the Deputy Commissioner adding that the ADC (G) has been appointed as nodal officer for posting of polling staff besides providing required training to staff and micro observers.
The Deputy Commissioner added that Assistant Commissioner would look after sveep activities so that more and more people can be sensitised about casting their franchise. For implementation of model code of conduct and other directions of election commission, several model officers including MC commissioner and SDMs of all sub-divisions including Bholath, Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi and Phagwara had been appointed nodal officers. The joint commissioner of Phagwara MC will look after poll expenses. Panchal said the media certification and monitoring cell had already been set up at district administrative complex to keep tab on paid news and other social media platforms.
