Taking a decisive step under the anti-drug initiative of the Punjab government ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation in coordination with the Commissionerate Police Jalandhar,  on Sunday demolished an illegal construction in Gopal Nagar belonging to two brothers linked with the infamous drug trade.

Commissioner of Police, Dhanpreet Kaur, said that the illegal property of Pralad Kumar and Somanath alias Manna, sons of Prem Kumar, residents of House No. 1472, Gopal Nagar, Jalandhar, was demolished. Both Pralad Kumar and Somnath alias Manna are known drug peddlers, against whom 10 FIRs have been registered under the NDPS Act and the IPC.

“This action is a strong message to the drug mafia. By destroying their illegal properties, we are not only enforcing the law but also liberating our neighbourhood from the grip of drugs,” said CP Dhanpreet Kaur.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Commissionerate Police to completely uproot the drug network and appealed to the citizens to share drug-related information through the government’s WhatsApp number 9779-100-200, assuring complete confidentiality of the informants.

Residents welcomed this initiative by the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police. They praised the government’s bold steps, saying, “This will send a strong message to drug traffickers and boost public confidence.”

Locals described such actions as a significant step in the state’s ongoing war against drugs to make Punjab drug-free.
