Chandigarh University storms into Pre-Quarter Finals of All India Inter University Rugby Championship 2024-25

Chandigarh University (CU) has stormed into the pre-quarter final of All India Inter University Rugby Championship (Men) 2024-25 being held at CU campus.

In all, 57 teams from universities from all over India are participating in this five-day tournament.Chandigarh University’s Rugby 7s and 15s teams clinched dominant wins to reach pre-quarter finals of national championship.

On the day three of the tournament which began on 16 December, Chandigarh University’s Men’s Rugby 7s team beat LNCT University Bhopal by a massive margin of 39-0.

In the Men’s Rugby 15s championship, Chandigarh University, Mohali defeated Nirvana University, Jaipur by 45-0. The pre quarter-final and quarter-final matches will be played on Thursday.

Organised by Chandigarh University under the auspices of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) New Delhi, about 900 players and officials representing universities all over India are participating in this Men’s Rugby 15s and Men’s Rugby 7s championship which is being supported by Rugby India, the sole governing body for the sport of Rugby in India. All matches of the championship are being live streamed on YouTube (https://sportvot.com/stream).

In the 7s category on the third day, KIIT, Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar beat Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University, Aligarh by 64-0, University of Mumbai beat Utkal University, Bhubaneswar by 40-0, University of Calicut beat Guru Nanak Dev University by a close margin of 17-15, Shivaji University, Vidyanagar, beat Swarnim University Gujarat by 33-0, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University defeated Paher University, Udaipur 53-0, Bharatiya Vidyapith University, Pune defeated Punjabi University Patiala 14-0, Karamveer Baurao Patil University, Satara defeated Sri Khushal Das University, Hanumangarh 41-0, Lovely Professional University defeated Bhagwant University, Ajmer 31-0, Kerala University defeated Kurukshetra University 26-5, Lucknow University defeated Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMUA) 20-0, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga defeated University of Sports Board Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur 12-7 and Punjab University Chandigarh defeated Technical University, Jaipur 21-12.

In the matches played between the 15s category, Mumbai University defeated Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi 22-0, Maharaja Suheldevgarh University, Azamgarh defeated Paher University, Udaipur 12-0 and Lovely Professional University defeated Bhopal Nobles University, Udaipur 31-0.

On the second day of the competition, in the 7 players category, Lucknow University defeated Raj Rishi Bhartihari University, Alwar by 47-0, Mithila University, Darbhanga defeated Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra by 37-0, Technical University, Jaipur defeated Tilkamanjhi Bhagalpur University by 24-0, Karamveer Baurav Patil University, Satara defeated Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi by 27-0, Bhagwant University, Ajmer defeated Maharaja Suheldevgarh University, Azamgarh by 32-0, Kurukshetra University defeated Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapuram by 27-0 and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMUVA) defeated Bangalore University by 43-0.

Similarly, in the matches played between teams of 15 players on the second day, Chandigarh University, Mohali defeated Nirvana University Jaipur by 45-0, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi defeated Bhagwant University, Ajmer by 40-0, Calicut University defeated Rajasthan University by 31-0, and Mumbai University defeated Punjab University, Chandigarh by 22-15.

Similarly, on the first day in the Men 15s category, Pahar University, Udaipur defeated Shri Khushaldas University, Hanumangarh by 22-0, Lovely Professional University defeated Kavitaari Behnabai Chaudhary North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon by 42-6, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi defeated Sports Board Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur by 17-5 and Lucknow University defeated Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra by 19-0 and were eliminated from the competition.
