Ferozepur, March 24

Hundreds of youths under the banner of Naujawan Bharat Sabha broke open the shutter of the building  used as the hideout by Shaheed Bhagat Singh in Toori Bazar and after sloganeering ‘Inqulab Zindabad’ , stopped the show being run in the building and thrown out the goods on the road.

NBS leaders Naunihal Singh Deep Singh Wala Davinder Singh Chabilpur and Manga Azad said that our struggle to keep the historical places will continue. We have released the illegal possession and in case its possession is given again, we will again get it released.

During this time, the youths tried to forcibly vacate Kiran’s shop located below the two-storey secret hideout of the revolutionaries and one shopkeeper was also injured seriously while the goods were taken away by certain people.

The hideout in Ferozepur had been used by Bhagat Singh and his associates when they stayed here between 1928-29 and planned various activities to free India from British rule.

It is also said that revolutionary Shiv Verma had written the autobiographies of 53 revolutionaries which were later on published in Chand Magazine. Revolutionaries used to come to this place like Chander Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Ram Prasad Bismil and others. It is also said that Bhagat Singh has clean-shaved himself at this place before leaving for Patna.

Earlier, the Punjab government issued a notification to declare the hideout as a protected monument but there has been no plan after that to provide an alternative site to the occupants of the building.

The shopkeeper had demanded strict action against the youths for forcibly taking possession of the building. On the other hand, the police have not received any complaints, in this regard.
