Betrayal and backstabbing aptly sums up 1.5 years of Mann government: Shergill

Crumbling law and order, broken promises, rampant drug menace, booming VIP culture, and wasting Punjab resources aptly sums up the last one and half years of the AAP government in Punjab. This was stated by BJP’s National Spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill, as he charged the AAP Government of ‘dictatorial’ functioning in an ‘unconstitutional’ manner, as Mann government completes 1.5 years in office.

In a statement issued today, Shergill said that as far as crime in Punjab is concerned, the state of affairs is miserable. “Reports of broad daylight murders, extortions, loot, and gang wars have become a routine and the common man is living under constant fear for his life and property. It is extremely unfortunate that even after more than a year, Sidhu Moose Wala’s father is pleading for justice” said Shergill.

Highlighting the issue of broken promises, Shergill sought an explanation from Mann on why his government has not been able to fulfill its promise of giving Rs 1,000 per month to all women who have attained the age of 18 years. On the crucial issue of unemployment, he said that forget about Punjab, Mann is busy giving employment to the next state Haryana, while quoting the recent recruitment of 6 sub-inspectors from Haryana in Punjab police.

Holding the Mann government squarely responsible for the increasing drug menace, Shergill said, “Even though there have been more than 200 drug overdose deaths, the curse of drugs continues unabated. Ever since the Mann government took over, the drug menace has assumed a much more alarming proportion, reflecting the government’s complete lack of seriousness in tackling it.”

Shergill further said that ‘VIP Culture’ in Punjab is currently at its peak. Asserting that the AAP government in Punjab is being run by a coterie sitting in Delhi, Shergill questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as to who has given him the right to indulge in wasteful expenditure by exploiting Punjab’s resources to fulfill the political ambitions of ‘Delhi Durbar’ headed by Arvind Kejriwal.

Pointing out brutal lathicharge on the peacefully protesting employees, power tariff hike for domestic and industrial consumers and delay in disbursing salaries to its employees, Shergill strongly underlined the shoddy functioning of the government.

“It has been an abject failure of the government to deal with the floods in Punjab that caused immense damage to the crops and even urban infrastructure. What is even more appalling is the fact that when 19 of the 23 districts of Punjab were ravaged by the floods, Mann was out of state, accompanying his ‘Super Boss’ Arvind Kejriwal,” he rued, while asserting CM has been completely ignoring Punjab.

Accusing the AAP government of murdering democracy, Shergill said that the recent decision of the government to dissolve all the panchayats in the state was completely illegal for which the government was compelled to later take a U-turn.

Shergill said that the ‘Badlaav’ this government has brought about is that it has turned Punjab into a protest hub state with various sections of the employees staging protests regularly accusing Mann of ignoring their genuine demands. “What is more worrying is the fact that whosoever tries to raise its voice against this Anarchist Arrogant Party (AAP) government has to face the wrath of the government,” he added.

The BJP leader further said that under the AAP rule, the state economy is already in the doldrums. Shergill added, “The health and education sectors are in a shambles, whereas the industry is on the verge of closure because of the wrong decisions being taken by those at the helm of affairs.” Dubbing the present government as completely confused and deceitful, Shergill stated that ‘mismanagement, misgovernance and corruption’ have been the hallmark of the Mann-led AAP government.

Stating that the people of Punjab have completely lost confidence in this Aisho Aaraam Party (AAP) government, Shergill said that Mann is misleading the masses by making false claims about the achievements of its government through advertisements. “In the process, the Mann government has wasted hundreds of crores whereas the reality is that Punjab has been pushed back by 40 years by the inefficient functioning of this government,” he said.
