Bathinda: 7 people detained ahead of ‘Chetna March’ supporting Amritpal Singh

Around seven people were detained by Punjab police ahead of the ‘Chetna March’ planned in support of Amritpal Singh, chief of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit, on Tuesday.

They were going to Bathinda to participate in the Chetna March in support of Amritpal Singh and his associates, currently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA).

Speaking to ANI, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Bathinda Range, Surinder Pal Singh Parmar said, “Around 5-7 people who were going to participate in the ‘Chetna’ march in support of Amritpal lodged in Dibrugarh jail have been detained. Wherever we anticipate a law and order situation and we have the provision to detain, preventive action is carried out. These are just preventive measures, any civilian who wants to come and visit the ‘Akal Takht’ is welcome.”

The march is scheduled to start from Takht Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda, and culminate at Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar on Tuesday.With the code of conduct imposed all over the country in view of the Lok Sabha elections, they were detained under preventive action.

Amritpal Singh was arrested in April last year and the stringent National Security Act was invoked against him. He and nine of his associates are currently lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam.

Last month, the government extended the NSA against Amritpal and his nine associates.

Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Bhagwant Mann participated in the mega road show in Kurukshetra on Monday. A road show was taken out starting from Jat Dharamshala till the old bus stand with the slogan ‘Jail ka jawab vote se’. He campaigned in favor of Dr. Sushil Gupta, State President of Aam Aadmi Party and candidate from Kurukshetra Lok Sabha under India Alliance.

In the road show, workers and supporters of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress from all quarters of Kurukshetra Lok Sabha reached Kurukshetra. There was a huge crowd of supporters at every intersection of the city and the public welcomed Sardar Bhagwant Mann by showering flowers all along the way. The city of Kurukshetra came alive with slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai and Inquilab. In this, thousands of people gathered and pledged to make India alliance win.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, while thanking all the workers and supporters who reached the historical land of Kurukshetra, said BJP people think that by arresting Arvind Kejriwal, they will destroy the Aam Aadmi Party. But this is the misunderstanding of BJP. You will imprison Arvind Kejriwal, but how will you imprison his thinking? Arvind Kejriwal is in jail but his mind is here. When his wife Sunita Kejriwal and lawyers go to meet him, they take the report. Today we will also take the report of Kurukshetra and this report should be such that he gets relief that my soldiers are standing firm.

He said the manner in which public love is being showered proves that the public is ready for change. Such a fountain & fire of truth will emerge in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi that BJP people will keep watching.
